In groups we are going to create our own film teaser trailers to run along a similar film. We are doing this to find out what its like to film a trailer and what to do differently to improve the trailer. The film we are looking to emulate is The Woman in Black.
we are going to do a film trailer in which someone is being stalked by an unkown source and their shoe is mysteriously found.

Making a Trailer
What is the USP of the film Battleship? Battleship is being sold as a sci fi war style film. They are using well known names such as Liam Neeson and Rhianna to help promote it as these are the leading names used within the film. Liam Neeson is known from roles in others action packed thrillers like the A team and this film is also trying to emulate a similar type of genre. Also Rhianna is used as a sexually attractive female for males to become even more interested, as the film would feature both action and women. So this is a selling point to the make market. So battleship is aimed more to middle class men. The action scenes adds a sense of interest and the dramatic nature of the scenes which involve lots of violence and sci fi sources would also indicate it is geared to more a male market. This is further emphasised in its use of guns and weaponary.
Who might be the chosen audience?
The film battleship is a very similar film in style and genre to this film Battle: Los Angeles so they will have very similar target audiences. So this shows that the film Battleship would be mainly males aged 15-24 and mainly of a middle class background.
What Might appeal to the audience?
As this film is trying to appeal to a target audience which is in particular a younger male one. You would expect to see a lot of action which is fast paced and includes lots of violence and aggression as this would keep them interested and on the edge of their seat. Also they would be interested in sexual references so it would be key to include good looking women such as battleship does. Also younger males would be interested in cgi and stunts which increase the drama and action within the film. They would like loud fast paced scenes and this fast action would need to be replicated throughout so they don't get bored. Technology used in films such as battleship will also add to the excitement for younger males.
My Battleship Trailer

In making my trailer i decided to use the more dramatic music showing that the film was to feature much drama as well as the action shown within the clips i have decided to use. I also decided to show the action shots at the beginning with all of the drama and use of technology so that the audience is straight away pulled in. Then towards the end i show other features of the film such as the relationship between the new captain and his bosses daughter and also the women who is screaming showing more of the drama and also that there is also sub plots and other stories to the film. I also include the names of the main actors to also interest the audience as they like to see big names. My trailer is in like reverse to the main trailer which makes it look like it is in a different order. But it still shows the main story that they are under attack from another life form and that there are sexual refrences and that it is still a film geared to a genre and target audience of Young males. I also chose quick fast action scenes so that they only got a glimpse of certain aspects of the film making them want more also the fast action change from scene to scene reflects the style of the film that its fast paced and full of action.

Starting Research and developing practical skills
I am going to research the marketing campaign for the 2012 released film Battleship, i am doing this in order to begin my advanced portfolio for media. I am going to look at all of the marketing methods they use and how the package including trailer, posters and magazine covers maintained a USP, signified the genre and had similar style traits. Using the film education website im going to make my own trailer for the film, using the knowledge ive acquired about how to market a film.

•a film magazine front cover, featuring the film
•a poster for the film.
The production element and presentation of research, planning and evaluation may be individual or
group work (maximum group size is four candidates). Where candidates have worked in a group, the
evidence for assessment may be presented collectively but centres will still assess candidates on an
individual basis for their contribution to aspects of the work, from planning, research and production to evaluation.
